WOTM field guide

Advanced Development

Organize your strongest positions into a personal system. The objective is a clear route into your best wrestling and a dependable response when that route is blocked.

Advanced Development: Preferred tie → Primary attack → Blocked response → Recovery
Key sequence · Follow the detailed explanation below.
01

Identify your strongest entry

Review which tie and attack consistently create a stable position. Choose a main entry and a complementary option rather than trying to make every attack equally central.

02

Build the access route

Practice the footwork and hand fighting that lead to the entry. Include the common tie clear or angle change needed when the opponent denies your preferred connection.

03

Plan the failed-entry response

Choose a safe recovery or second action when the entry stalls. Practice it from the actual stopped position so the transition is realistic.

04

Connect match positions

Define your first bottom action and your most dependable top control. Rehearse moving between positions without treating each exchange as an isolated technique.

Put it into practice

Your next session

Draw a three-branch map: preferred setup, opponent’s most common response, and your next action. Test each branch in a controlled situational round and revise it with the coach.

What to look for

A useful personal system is small enough to explain and strong enough to adapt. This page provides a planning structure; the coach should tailor the actual techniques to the athlete.
