Find the decisive situation
Review practice or match footage with a coach and identify a recurring exchange that changes the outcome. Describe the position and timing rather than a broad weakness.
Design representative practice
Recreate the starting tie, distance, and partner reaction from that exchange. Keep the task narrow enough that the athlete gets repeated opportunities to make the relevant decision.
Manage the quality of work
Use brief focused rounds with enough recovery for useful decisions. Stop and adjust when fatigue makes the practice drift away from the target problem.
Evaluate the transfer
Return to a less constrained round and see whether the adjustment appears without prompting. Keep the change only when it improves the real exchange.
Put it into practice
Your next session
Plan a session around one match situation: a few cooperative reminders, several constrained decision rounds, and a short transfer check in open wrestling. Record the result in plain language.
What to look for
Review whether the athlete recognizes the situation earlier and preserves their best position more consistently. Avoid claiming progress from drill success alone.
