Define concrete standards
Replace broad slogans with actions: arrive ready, match the assigned resistance, stop on the signal, and help partners reset. Explain why each standard improves practice.
Model the response
Show how to respond to a mistake without humiliation. Correct the behavior directly and provide a clear way to rejoin the task.
Create shared routines
Use consistent partner changes, equipment cleanup, and brief end-of-practice reflection. Make sure new athletes learn the routines instead of being expected to guess them.
Review what is happening
Ask athletes whether they can get help, whether partners follow the drill instructions, and whether the standards apply consistently. Adjust the routine when the experience differs from the intention.
Put it into practice
Your next session
Choose one standard for the next week and point out specific examples of it in action. Invite athletes to describe how it helped their learning.
What to look for
Look for consistent partner behavior and willingness to ask questions. Avoid measuring culture only by noise, intensity, or competitive results.
